It has been a great year at Liberty.  My class started the year in a 18x17 classroom and we eventually moved to our new classroom after winter break.  My students wrote about becoming a super hero to learning about their family history in a family root project.  They even wrote a letter to some soldier, one even came to meet the class.

We learned what life was like living on Alcatraz for a young boy in the novel Al Capone Does my Shirts, to taking a ride on the Dawn Treader.  The class also meet Lord Furnavail's son in the book Crispin and the over all favorite, Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief.

6th grade went on many amazing field trips and it was a year I know I wont forget.

Your child has been very busy in my room the last few weeks. They have written a superhero paper where they have transformed themselves into their alter ego. They have also done research paper on a Greek God or Goddess of their choosing.

A few of the students have really enjoyed reading many of the books from three different series by the author Rick Riordan.

As far as the classroom goes, we are starting a story on what the student's life would be like if they found out they were actually a superhero. Happy December, In reading we are currently reading Percy Jackson The Lighting Thief by Rick Roden. The book is about a modern boy who discovers that his best friend is a satyr and more importantly his father is the Greek God Poseidon. Percy then goes on a country wide adventure trying to save himself and his father. So far the students have really enjoyed reading the first few chapters. This week the students are currently working on an essay where the students are having a conversation with a pet or a stuffed animal. Each student is expected to write the essay using the proper format for having a conversation. The students usually have some fun when writing this essay.
